The foundation of a good barn is a good site: clearing, grading, drainage and a stable, level pad.
Most barn problems start in the dirt. Poor drainage, uneven pads and soft spots lead to settling, wet floors and doors that stick. A good site is cleared of trees and brush, graded so water flows away, and compacted so the building sits on stable ground.
We stake the building footprint, remove vegetation, cut and fill to a level pad, add gravel and plan swales, culverts and drive entrances. Tennessee slopes and clay soils make drainage planning especially important, and we design it in from the start.
